In the 1950’s Paul Zimmer started the Zimmer Manufacturing Company, which produced manufactured housing. In the late 1970’s Zimmer diversified into several additional “fun” businesses including luxury yachts, motor homes, RV- recreational vehicles and van conversions. In 1980 he produced his first car the Gold Spirit, a neo-classic car. A second car model, the Quicksilver, was introduced in 1985. It was based on the mid-engine sports car the Pontiac Fiero. In 1988 the parent company, a 325 million dollar a year company, went bankrupt, taking down all of its operating divisions including the 10 million dollar a year car company. Only about 170 Quicksilvers were built before the company closed down in 1988.
