Zimmer Magazine Articles
Below are various magazine articles that have appeared over the years. Do you know of some we've missed? Let us know!
Kit Car Illustrated, February 2000
Interesting article on Ed Tooley and his experiences with QuickSilvers. Some of the information is now known to be inaccurate, which unfortunately makes some of the other information in it suspect. We've reached out to the writer of the article for information of his sourcing, but attempts to locate the owner featured in the article, Ed Tooley, have been unsuccessful.
Some of the incorrect claims in this article include:
That said, the owner of the car in the article tells how he bought his first QuickSilver (#860011 - black). Then a short time later bought his second (#7103 - white). His third QuickSilver, featured in the article, is #7151 - which he believed to be the last car built before Zimmer ceased production. Finally, the article states that "two other bodies destined to be convertibles were never finished", again something that we've not been able to verify. However, QuickSilver designer Don Johnson did sketch some QuickSilver convertible concepts.
Some of the incorrect claims in this article include:
- Zimmer started out as "custom car builders" using "GM drivetrains and "350 V-8 engines"
- "custom design taillights" on the QuickSilver
- "custom-padded, Recaro seats"
- "The combination of high prices and lagging sales caused Zimmer to close it's doors..."

Forbes Magazine, September 26, 1983
Egomobile? Not sure how Paul Zimmer felt about this article, but I can imagine that he believed that "any publicity is good publicity", especially with the demographic of the average reader of Forbes!
Car and Driver, April 1987
Zimmer liked this article so much, they had it re-printed as a standalone document.
Venture magazine, July 1986
Another article that Zimmer had reprinted as a standalone piece for their own use.
Collectible Automobile, August 1993
Three page article on the QuickSilver. Thanks to Don "D.A." Johnson for pointing this one out!
